People with vitiligo disease, in which pigmentation disappears in certain areas of the skin, have increasingly begun to appear in the fashion industry, maintaining a trend on models with an extraordinary appearance. One example is Darius Vernon, born in London.
Vitiligo turned the life of this man into a living hell: from his youth he endured constant humiliation, beatings, he had no friends and relatives, and the worst thing all this went on for years.
The model business saw a lot of people with vitiligo, but they were all women, and although their illness brought them many emotional problems, Darius had a harder time.
The young man was forced to stop communicating with the opposite sex due to low self-esteem. He became so depressed that he once tried to commit suicide by taking a lethal dose of pills. Darius was saved from the inevitable death by his brother, who accidentally visited him. After the suicide attempt of the future model, it was possible to reconsider his views on life, and a person with a similar illness helped him. “We shook hands with each other, after which he asked if I understood that the problem was not in me, but in the outside world,” says Darius.
This meeting also greatly influenced a man, and he realized that it was not his illness that was to blame, but a lack of kindness and understanding in people. Since then, Darius began to keep Instagram, where he already proudly showed his feature to subscribers. After some time, he was contacted by representatives of one of the modeling agencies, finally changing the idea of Vernon about his appearance.
Contrary to the difficult fate, a man with a rare disease was lucky to meet a man who gave him hope. Darius, who had come to the attempt of suicide, returned to the world as a completely new person, was able to overcome his complexes and become happy.
